“Good aftercare protects your results, and your safety.”

After any treatment, the care you take in the next few hours and days matters. Following these instructions helps your skin heal well, lowers the chance of side effects, and protects the result you came in for.

After Your Treatment

  • Your skin may feel warm, like a mild sunburn, for a few hours. This is normal and settles on its own.
  • Some redness and mild swelling are common on the day of treatment. Use ice as needed, with a thin cotton cloth between the ice and your skin.
  • Brown spots may look darker and take on a coffee-ground appearance over the next day or two. This is expected. They flake off on their own over about one to two weeks.
  • Do not pick, scratch, or scrub the treated skin. Let the flaking happen naturally.
  • Starting the next morning, wash gently with a mild cleanser and lukewarm water, and pat dry.
  • Keep the skin moisturized with a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer.
  • Keep sun exposure to none while the skin is healing. Wear a wide-brimmed hat outdoors.
  • Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen, SPF 30 or higher, once the skin is comfortable, and continue it daily.
  • Avoid heat for 24 to 48 hours: hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and vigorous exercise.
  • Wait a few days before using retinoids, glycolic acid, or other exfoliating products.
  • You may usually wear makeup the same day or the next day, since the skin surface stays intact.
  • Call the office immediately with any concerns, or go to your nearest emergency room.

Concealing Redness

  • Once the skin has healed, any lingering redness can be covered. Apply a green skin primer after moisturizing, then concealer and foundation on top.
