After Your Treatment
- Your skin may feel warm, like a mild sunburn, for a few hours. This is normal and settles on its own.
- Some redness and mild swelling are common on the day of treatment. Use ice as needed, with a thin cotton cloth between the ice and your skin.
- Brown spots may look darker and take on a coffee-ground appearance over the next day or two. This is expected. They flake off on their own over about one to two weeks.
- Do not pick, scratch, or scrub the treated skin. Let the flaking happen naturally.
- Starting the next morning, wash gently with a mild cleanser and lukewarm water, and pat dry.
- Keep the skin moisturized with a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer.
- Keep sun exposure to none while the skin is healing. Wear a wide-brimmed hat outdoors.
- Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen, SPF 30 or higher, once the skin is comfortable, and continue it daily.
- Avoid heat for 24 to 48 hours: hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and vigorous exercise.
- Wait a few days before using retinoids, glycolic acid, or other exfoliating products.
- You may usually wear makeup the same day or the next day, since the skin surface stays intact.
- Call the office immediately with any concerns, or go to your nearest emergency room.
Concealing Redness
- Once the skin has healed, any lingering redness can be covered. Apply a green skin primer after moisturizing, then concealer and foundation on top.
